Song: Toki wo Kizamu Uta
Artist: Lia
Album: Toki wo Kizamu Uta
Other: Opening song for the anime CLANNAD ~After Story~
ochite iku suna dokei bakari miteru yo
sakasama ni sureba hora mata hajimaru yo
kizanda dake susumu jikan ni
itsuka boku mo haireru kana
I just stared at the falling sand in the hourglass.
If I were to flip it…it’ll start all over again.
In this time that just passes through…
I wonder if I too can enter it.
kimi dake ga sugisatta saka no tochuu ha
atataka na hidamari ga ikutsu mo dekiteta
boku hitori ga koko de yasashii
atataka sa wo omoi kaeshiteru
In that hill you just passed by during your way home,
plenty of sunny spots have appeared.
Here, tenderly, I alone
reminisce these warm feelings.
kimi dake wo kimi dake wo
suki de ita yo
kaze de me ga nijinde
tooku naru yo
Just you…it’s only you
who I loved.
My eyes, watery from the wind,
makes you more distant…
itsumademo oboeteru
nanimo kamo kawattemo
hitotsu dake hitotsu dake
arifureta mono dakedo
misete yaru kagayaki ni michita sono hitotsu dake
itsumademo itsumademo mamotte iku
I’ll always remember
even if everything were to change.
Just one, just one
mundane thing…
but I’ll show you, this one thing full of radiance,
I’ll always and forever protect it.
hada samui hi ga tsudzuku mou haru nanoni
mesamashi dokei yori hayaku okita asa
saninbun no asa gohan wo tsukuru kimi ga
soko ni tatte iru
These cold days continue…even though it’s spring already.
In the morning I wake up earlier than the alarm clock,
you stand there, making breakfast
for three.
kimi dake ga kimi dake ga
soba ni inai yo
kinou made sugu soba de boku wo miteta yo
Just you…it’s only you
who isn’t next to me.
Until yesterday, you were there next to me…looking at me.
kimi dake wo kimi dake wo
suki de ita yo
kimi dake to kimi dake to
utau uta dayo
boku tachi no boku tachi no
kizanda toki dayo
katahou dake tsudzuku nante
boku ha iyada yo
Just you…it’s only you
who I loved.
For you…just for you
I’ll sing this song.
It’s our…our own
passing time.
Continuing to be alone…
I don’t want that.
itsumade mo oboeteru
kono machi ga kawattemo
dore dake no kanashimi to deau koto ni nattemo
misete yaru honto ha tsuyokatta toki no koto
saa iku yo arukidasu saka no michi wo
I’ll always remember,
even if this town were to change.
No matter how much sadness I meet,
I’ll show you, the time when I was truly strong.
Here I go, I walk to that hill.

Can I say spoiler? I may not know much about the After Story…but this seems to be part of the plot…>_> But, it’s a pretty good and touching song so I’ll let it slide. |

I like it to! It has such a melancholic but warm feeling to it…but I like “Mag Mell” just a bit more! |

Some corrections for common mistakes:
kizanda dake susumu jikan ni
In this time that just carves through…
‘Kizanda’ here, with reference to time, means ‘passed; ticked away; spent”.
atataka na hidamari ga ikutsu mo dekiteta
plenty of sunflowers have bloomed.
‘Hidamari’ means ’sunny spots; sunshine; patches of sunlight’.
atataka sa wo omoi kaeshiteru
return these warm feelings.
‘Omoikaeshiteru’ should be one word. It means, ‘to think back; reminisce; recall’.
mesamashi dokei yori hayaku okita asa
In the morning I wake up earlier than the clock,
‘Mezamashidokei’ specifically means an ‘alarm clock’.
kizanda toki dayo
engraved time.
See first explanation in this comment. Ditto here.
dore dake no kanashimi to deau koto ni nattemo
No matter how much sadness or encounters I meet,
There’s no ‘encounters’. It should just be “…sadness I’m to meet’.
@Atashi:
–I confused “Hidamari” with “Himawari”… -_-
–I used the “to” particle as a listing marker…I didn’t know it could be used as a mimesis marker…
Thanks for the corrections! I’m still learning Japanese and still have much set phrases to learn, so I’m thankful for the information you gave me!
Thanks for the translation! This song is really beautiful
I also feel thankful this is also one the most beautiful song ever
Who sing this song? Nagisa or Tomoya?
@Sasari: This song seems to be from the point of view of Tomoya…
I don’t know if any of you noticed it, but at the end of the song, after the last softly spoken part, you can hear a cord being pulled and the background music being played as if it came from one of those toys that hang above a child’s cradle.
I think it’s fairly obvious that this is meant to point to Ushio, Tomoya and…hum, I don’t really know how Clannad is going to turn out and which route is going to be taken.
We’ll see. Clannad After Story is a brilliant anime either way. ^__^
what does the title ‘Toki wo Kizamu Uta’ mean?
@Mei: “Song Transcending Time”
If it sounds weird, basically it just means “a song that goes beyond time”.
[...] CLANNAD ~After Story~ Opening Song | Translation [...]
Aww. The lyrics are so sad, and yeah…kind of the afterstory in itself.
this is the best song ever made
Usually the song’s for an Anime is specifically made or specifically chosen to go with the plot. If you’ve watched Clannad After Story all the way up to it’s latest episode you’ll understand why the words in this song are like this. It’s done by the viewpoint of Tomoya living with his wife Nagisa and his daughter Ushio supposedly (“Making breakfast for three”) And the words match the plot very well with what Tomoya and Nagisa have been saying through After Story.

EDIT: Spoiler has Been Removed
I watched episode 19 yesterday and I totally agree with Tariman. The song matches the plot perfectly well and I also think it is from Tomoyas point of view. A really beautiful and incredibly sad song.(I hope there will be a happy end like the one you can unlock in the visual novel)
hehe can’t wait for ep 20 beeing subbed^^
Can u give tell me where can i download this song please??
The beautiful lyrics (and music) fits perfectly with the Clannad “heart breaking” After Story.
I don’t want to spoil it to anyone that has not seen it yet (I highly recommend you see it) so I will just say this, episode 21 is literally painful to watch. It reminded me what I felt watching “Grave of the Fireflies” / “Hotaru no Haka”.
this song is the most beautiful I ever heard, I love it!
Lia sings the most incredible songs. The song is so beautiful! my favorite parts of the song are after the chorus that begin with “itsumademo” because it goes so well with the accompanying piano. i wonder how Lia didn’t run out of breath singing those lines.
